Isuzu mu-X Overview
The all-new second-generation Isuzu mu-X just got a major upgrade making it several steps ahead of its predecessor. It made its first debut in Thailand back in October 2020, featuring the tried and tested Blue Power turbo-diesel range of engines along with several changes that make the midsize more refined and competitive than before. For the Philippine market, the midsize SUV made its entry with 5 available variants, namely the RZ4E LS 4x2 AT, RZ4E LS-A 4x2 MT, the 3.0 LS-A 4x2 AT, 3.0 LS-E 4x2 AT, and the 3.0 LS-E 4x4 AT.
Like its predecessor, there are two powertrain options available for the all-new Isuzu mu-X. The Blue Power range of engines includes the base 1.9-liter RZ4E turbo diesel motor that churns out the same figures as before, respectively, 148 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The other one is a 3.0-liter Blue Power turbo diesel engine that puts out a healthier 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Only the base engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual, while the larger motor can only be mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
- Launch
-
Isuzu Philippines launched the all-new mu-X on September 22, 2021. Initially, the midsize SUV has 5 variants for the local market. Like its predecessor, the second-generation Isuzu mu-X is made available with two engines including a 1.9-liter RZ4E turbo diesel motor and a 3.0-liter Blue Power turbo diesel engine that has boosted power figures.
- Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
-
Under the hood, the Isuzu mu-X is powered by either a 1.9-liter or a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The 1.9-liter motor produces 148 hp and 350 Nm of torque, while the bigger 3.0-liter engine produces 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Transmission options have been carried over from the previous model as the SUV can still be had with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
With its new generation, the 7-seater SUV gains a new chassis that was co-developed with Mazda as well as a new suspension setup. As before the vehicle can still be had as either a 4x2 or as a 4x4 model, with the LS-E variant being the only model getting the 4x4 drivetrain. It still rides on double-wishbone coil springs with a high mounter upper control arm and stabilizer at the front and a five-link coil spring and stabilizer bar at the back. Stopping power for the vehicle comes from 17-inch disc brakes all around as a standard for all models.
